Ocean Key Resort Salutes Summer With Sumptuous Sunset Pier Celebrations

Key West, Fla. (March 17, 2009) – As the temperature climbs, so does the excitement for Ocean Key Resort’s summer celebrations. The Sunset Pier, known for its alfresco food and folly, will host a variety of dining and entertainment options that are fun and affordable.

“Loco” Coconut Races
From 5:00- 7:00 pm on Fridays, participants pick numbers out of a hat to determine which coconut they receive, then line up and all drop the coconuts at the floating course’s starting gate.  The current takes over from there. “Other venues offer sporting games like pool, darts, poker and foosball,” states Matt Trahan, general manager of Ocean Key Resort & Spa. “But none of those venues are located where Duval Street meets the Atlantic Ocean.  We stepped up the fun and the competition and took advantage of our spectacular waterfront location. It’s nuts! Pun intended.”

"Old School" Shrimp Feast
On Tuesdays from 7:00 – 11:00pm, a shrimp boat from the FishBuster’s fleet drops off the day’s catch of Key West Pink Gold shrimp and the Sunset Pier steams the straight up from the boat. Piping hot ½ pound of the freshest shrimp available for just $5 with a full ear of corn and a side of cole slaw. Drink specials include: $5 1800 Margaritas,  $5 McWilliams Chardonnay and Landshark Buckets of 5 for $15

Food & Wine Pairings
Ocean Key Resort’s fine dining restaurant, Hot Tin Roof,  will host “Paradise” food & wine pairings from 6:00 - 9:00 pm.  Featuring provocative wines, paired with decadent bites, the food and wine selections by Chef Timothy Labonte are sure to please.
