LaPlaya Beach & Golf Resort Welcomes Guests for the 2009 RedSnook Catch & Release Tournament

LaPlaya Beach & Golf Resort Welcomes Guests for the 2009 RedSnook Catch & Release Tournament

NAPLES, Fla. – August 3, 2009 - The Conservancy of Southwest Florida announces that the 2009 RedSnook Catch and Release Charity Fishing Tournament is scheduled for Oct. 2-4, 2009. The first event for the tournament will take place at 5:30 p.m. at LaPlaya Beach & Golf Resort, the three-year Turtle Awareness Partner of the Conservancy of Southwest Florida.

The kick-off celebration at LaPlaya Beach & Golf Resort invites guests to support a good cause while enjoying the company of new and old friends. Guests will enjoy dinner from Outback Steakhouse and Whole Foods Market and organic beer and wine. The traditional live and silent auctions will not only help raise funds for the Conservancy of Southwest Florida, but they will have exciting auction items of interest to both anglers and their guests. Additionally, for all the boat lovers, there will be displays of boats docked on the boat slips for guests to view.

LaPlaya and the Conservancy have joined their efforts together to save the native sea turtles by patrolling beaches, marking nests, counting hatched eggs and educating the community about important conservation measures that will give sea turtle hatchlings the support they need to survive. Acting as an environmentally sensitive organization and setting the gold standard for sea turtle protection issue, LaPlaya is proud to have gone green with efforts to protect their native sea turtles and host the RedSnook Catch & Release Tournament.

Roland Martin, legendary angler and television host of the “Fishing with Roland Martin Show,” will again host the 16th annual three-day tournament. Thomas M. Wagor, community bank president with M&I Bank, will serve as chairman of the event. Last year the tournament netted more than $60,000 for the Conservancy.

The RedSnook tournament benefits a juvenile game fish study being conducted by Conservancy biologists. The study will examine juvenile game fish living within the mangrove tidal creeks and salt marshes of Ten Thousand Islands. The goal is to learn more about how to conserve and restore juvenile game fish habitat.
